fun with fondant

so I’ve been trying my hand at fondant and realise I do a darned good job at it for a noob!
what say?

..psst! a little secret:

I sure wish I had those vibrant gel based food colors that people swear by if you’re looking for the brightest color possible but for this, I used the regular liquid food color.. I had tried to color the fondant the proper way once and figured I could only get pastel shades till I switched to gel colors. It sure is a shame that I’ve been almost all over Dubai’s supermarkets trying to look for gel food colors but cant find them anywhere.. some big places even look at me with blank faces and point me towards yellow zarda coloring! and I have yet to find pink food color ANYWHERE in dubai! grr.. yes yes I carried my supply all the way from Pakistan!

So back to the cupcake in question.. for this, I painted over the white fondant flowers with a Q-tip! yeah yeah jugaar at its very best ;) I was feeling particularly adventurous and ended up with a two-toned flower – the watercolor lessons at school didn’t go to waste after all!

If you try your hand at this, just make sure you work with deft single strokes else the fondant gets too gooey and ready to lose shape and dont forget to tell me how it turns out!
